In celebration of World Clean Up Day Al Meera organizes Beach Clean Up in collaboration with Ministry of Municipality and the College of Health and Life Sciences at HBKU

Doha, Qatar – 25 September 2022: In furtherance of its dedication to promote general hygiene and preserve the environment for future generations, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.P.S.C.) in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality (MoM) and the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), hosted a cleanup event at Ras Al Nof beach in Al Khor on 22nd September 2022 on the occasion of World Cleanup Day 2022.
World Cleanup Day unites millions of volunteers, governments and organizations in 191 countries to tackle the global waste problem and build up the new and sustainable world. The initiative brings together volunteers and partners worldwide to rid our planet of trash – cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from beaches, rivers, forests and streets. Al Meera beach cleanup at Ras Al Nof joins hundreds of initiatives around the world to spread the message of waste reduction and environment sustainability.
During the event, a large number of employees of Al Meera, officials of the Ministry of Municipality and volunteers from HBKU conducted a thorough cleanup of Ras Al Nof beach in Al Khor, removing several kilograms of plastic waste and other forms of litter from the area.
Commenting on the initiative, Al Meera said:
“Protection of our environment is a collective responsibility to ensure that we all live in a clean and safe community and preserve ecosystem for the future generations. We are excited to welcome officials and volunteers from our partners from the Ministry of Municipality and HBKU. The large turnout we witnessed at this event is a testament to our shared commitment to promoting sustainability.”
“Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness among members of the community about the importance of public hygiene and individuals’ role in maintaining general cleanliness. In a statement, the Ministry of Municipality said:
“The Ministry of Municipality sees preserving the environment as its primary obligation and strives to raise awareness about the need for community cooperation to protect our natural resources, particularly our beautiful beaches. We thank Al Meera, Qatar’s leading retail chain, for taking the lead in organizing this cleanup event at Ras Al Nof beach in Al Khor. It is impressive to see the large turnout of environment enthusiasts and volunteers from academic institutions taking part in the exercise to clean up our beach. We will continue to work with Al Meera and other socially responsible organizations in more community-led campaigns and initiatives to bring a positive change to Qatar.”
HBKU said, “As a homegrown university with special focus on sustainability, we place high priority on protection of environment from any form of distortion and pollution. We always look out to collaborate with corporate entities on initiatives that have direct positive impacts on the community and encourage our students to be aware of their responsibilities towards preserving our natural resources for future generations. We are glad to be part of Al Meera’s initiative to clean up Ras Al Nof beach in Al Khor on this special global occasion.”
To bring environmental protection awareness closer to the community, Al Meera continues working with schools and universities as the environments where opinions are molded and behaviors are built to promote the importance of keeping our community clean, safe and hygienic.
The clean-up event is part of Al Meera’s numerous Corporate Social Responsibility activities aimed at supporting the economic, human, social and environmental development pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
As part of its efforts to reduce the harmful effects of pollution on our coastal and urban areas, and protect the environment, Al Meera continues to introduce initiatives that include awareness campaigns, plastic and battery recycling services, and the launch of eco-friendly reusable bags, among others.
